Abstract

The importance of marine fisheries is summarized in the vital role for livelihoods, income, food and employment of coastal communities (FAO, 2021). In fact, it has been shown by various scientists that various marine stocks are suffering from over exploitation, pollution problems as well as effects of climate change and anthropogenic activities. According to Pauly et al. (2002), a global fisheries crisis where demand and yields are outpacing the natural potential of marine stocks. Hence revision of the fishery biology and stock assessment of marine species is essential for increasing our fisheries. The two main approaches of fisheries science that fisheries biologists discuss in their contribution are: 1- studying the distribution and biology of species, and 2- investigating the dynamics of species stocks. The first approach leads to clarification of the life cycles of the species through place and habitat. The second approach provides the managers with the necessary information and data for the sake of stock assessment and the response of the stock to management actions. The ultimate goal of fisheries science is to provide fisheries managers and decision makers with necessary information and advice on fisheries resources management, and also to propose alternative management plans (King, 2007).
