Abstract

Urinary tract infection is considered among the most prevalent infections affecting humans. Although several organisms can cause urinary tract infection, bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli, are the major causative agents. As in many community-acquired infections, uropathogens have developed resistance to many antimicrobial agents. Since the 2000, E. coli has been identified as a substantial risk producing extended spectrum β-lactamases in community-acquired urinary tract infections. These enzymes can pave resistance to the newer β-lactam antibiotics, including third and fourth generation cephalosporins and monobactams. Nanotechnology is a promising area of research that deals with the synthesis of nanoscale materials with highly effective biological and medicinal activities. The green synthesis of nanoparticles using plant parts attracts a huge interest. Among various metal oxide nanoparticles, zinc oxide nanoparticles are the most considered.
