Abstract

The study area is a part of the El Dabaa area lying to the east of Marsa Matruh on the northwestern coast of Egypt. The area extends between latitudes 28° 20’ 00”E and 28° 23’ 30”E and from longitudes 31° 02’ 15 ”N to 31° 05’ 00”N, covering an area of about 28.3 km2. Strati graphically, the exposed rocks were deposited in the Middle Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene, and Holocene. Geomorphologically, the area can be subdivided into three parts: the coastal plain in the north; the piedmont plain in the middle; and tableland in the southwestern corner of the study area. Structurally, the area is affected by serious monoclinal, synclinal structures and lineations as well as fracturing. The main aquifers at El Dabaa are the Middle Miocene fractured limestone and the Pleistocene politic limestone.
