Abstract

This study aims at determining the impact of organizational inertia on the three dimensions of employee innovative behavior (idea generation, idea promotion, idea implementation) for public secondary school teachers in Mansoura city. Data collection technique utilized in the study was questionnaire, that directed to public secondary school teachers in Mansoura city which their number were 4,275, the sample size was 353, only 321 questionnaires were statistically valid and free of missing data, with a response rate of 90.93%. The software (SPSS V.25) was applied to test the research hypotheses. The study findings showed that there aren’t significant differences between public secondary schools teachers’ perceptions regarding the study variables (organizational inertia - employee innovative behavior) according to their demographic characteristics (age and gender), Furthermore, the study reveals that there is a partially significant negative impact of organizational inertia with it’s dimensions represented by (insight inertia , psychological inertia, knowledge inertia) on idea generation, except action inertia has not a significant impact on idea generation. Moreover, organizational inertia with it’s four dimensions (insight inertia, action inertia, psychological inertia, knowledge inertia) have a significant negative impact on idea promotion. Finally, the results revealed that organizational inertia with it’s four dimensions (insight inertia, action inertia, psychological inertia, knowledge inertia) has a significant negative impact on idea implementation. The researcher presented a number of recommendations such as, adopt incremental change, remove organizational procedural and psychological obstacles, develop a sense of change and foster a change-oriented culture, pay attention to teachers’ individual and professional needs, give teachers autonomy, growth opportunities and authority in trying new ideas. In addition, change resource investments patterns through establish an appropriate system of innovation resource allocation and an innovation evaluation system.
