Abstract
Chicken astroviruses (CAstV) is an enteric virus affecting poultry flocks of different ages and every age has special signs. Generally leading to a decrease in body weight, enteritis, diarrhea, locomotor disorders, and a decrease in hatchability percentage with a special case named white chick syndrome at 1 day age. In the current study, the impact of chicken Astro virus infection on broilers’ parameters such as body weight, feed conversion ratio(FCR), mortality percentage, gross and histopathological picture of commercial chicken flock showed white feathering with decreasing in body weight and increasing in culling percentage in addition to general decreasing in performance. Collection of the samples was applied at 1 day, 15 days and 30 days of age. Post-mortem findings were recorded. Embryonated chicken egg (ECE) that inoculated with CAstV showed stunted chicks and subcutaneous edema. Chicken embryo liver cells (CEL) that are inoculated by CAstV show a cytopathic effect as aggregation, and sloughing. CAstV-infected flocks decreased in body weight with an increase in FCR. Chicks infected with CAstV had white feathers on day 1 and older chickens had bad conditions and swelled kidneys. Examination of CAstV-diseased herds revealed enteritis, and mild proventriculitis.
