Abstract

The thesis aims to monitor the hydrographic systems, land use/ land cover change, and natural hazard degree in the west Luxor area, Egypt, which give a good indication to assess and evaluate the quality of water resources, surface, shallow, groundwater for drinking, domestic, and irrigation. new applications were used in the present study such as integrating remote sensing (RS) and geographical information systems (GIS) to achieve sustainable development through examining and understanding the following parameters,1-The nature of climatic conditions and morphology, geology, hydrology, and the land surface characteristics, 2- The composition and characterization of the water bodies type (surface, shallow, and groundwater),3-Morphometric parameters of drainage basins and natural hazard degree, 4-The reclamation, and urban expansion rates, are based on the water resources, 5- The suitability of water resources for different purposes through calculating the water quality index, and heavy metals pollution index, and comparing the resulting data with standard criteria on both national and international levels. The significance of this study is that succeeded to build a scientific database for the hydrogeochemical of water resources in the western Luxor area, Egypt in addition study and topographic, hydrographic, and suitability of water for uses in different purposes, This study concluded that most of the studied water samples in the study area (west Luxor ) are not suitable for drinking purposes, most of the major ions exceed the permissible limits values recommended for drinking (WHO) and (E.S.L.), flood areas west of Luxor are confined to the desert area west of cities Luxor -Arment, and Isna, These areas represent 13.25 % of the hazard flooding zones.
