Abstract Externalizing behaviors are common and frequent at early childhood and considered as a social and financial burden on the community. Difficulties in the parents’–child relationship is receiving attention as a risk factor in the emergence of externalizing behavior at early childhood and the development of mental disorder later. The aim of the study was to assess parents’ reactions and their reflection on externalizing behavior of their children at early childhood. Method: A descriptive design was used in this study. Setting: Nursery School at Childhood Care and Development Center affiliated to Mansoura University. Tools : Three tools were used to collect data: - An interview questionnaire sheet, Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory ECBI and The Parent-Child Relationship Inventory PCRI. Results : More than half of studied parents had unsatisfactory knowledge level about EB of their children at early childhood. Also, about one-third of the studied children had a significant intensity/ severity of EB. As well, more than half of studied parents had reported positive reactions toward EB of their children at early childhood. Conclusion: There was a highly statistical negative correlation between the total studied parents’ self-reported reactions toward externalizing behavior of their children and their reflection on EB of their children at early childhood. Recommendation: Providing training programs for parents regarding prevention and management of externalizing behavior at early childhood. |
