Abstract

Summary
Sexuality is a phenomenon that cannot be ignored. It is similar to other instinctive desires of human beings. It has existed since birth and evolved with the development of human beings. Sexual ability is an important part of women’s lives and plays a vital role in marriage stability. Women’s sexual activity changes at all stages of life and is affected by many factors such as fatigue, fear of subsequent pregnancy, concerns about pain during intercourse, mode of delivery, breastfeeding, and different contraceptive methods (El Sayed, 2017).
The study aimed to assess sexual competence among primiparous women using different contraceptive methods. The research question was what is the effect of using different contraceptive methods on sexual competence among primiparous women?
A descriptive study design was used. The subject of this study included 300 primiparous women by purposive sample and selected according to the sample selected under the following criteria.
Inclusion criteria:
• Primiparous women using different contraceptive methods.
• healthy married women in the postpartum period with established sexual relationships.
• Women were incorporated and willing to participate in the study.
Setting
The study will be conducted at the family planning clinic of the maternity health center in Shoshay village, Menoufia governate.
Tools of data collection
The data in this study was collected by using three tools:
Tool (1): Structured interviewing questionnaire sheet which content
Part I: demographic and general characteristics of the study sample such as(age, level of education, occupation, residence, and income, ………)
Part II: obestatric and gynecological history such as, (No, of abortion, mode of delivery, infant age, episiotomy, feeding method , history of circumcision, the onset of menstruation after delivery, using contraceptive methods, …..)
Part III: Sexual history such as(time to start sex after delivery, frequency of sexual intercourse after delivery and calm environment during intercourse., ….)
Tool(2): Female sexual function index (FSFI) regarding sexual competence, to assess different domains of sexual function among primiprous women using different contraceptive methods.
The FSFI provides scores on six domains using factor analyses, (desire, lubrication, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain).
The main results of this study can be summarized as follows:
Regarding demographic characteristics of the studied sample, the results revealed that; most of the studied sample was(30.7%) at the age group from 26 to 30 years They reported that the mean age of participants was 29.5 ± 4.3. from rural areas presents that there was a statistically significant relation between sample’s total female sexual function with their age, and Occupation at p-value (.021*,.011*& 0.03*) respectively, while, non a statistically significant relation between sample’s total female sexual function with their residence and level of education.
Regarding relationship between the history of studied women and childbirth and their total female sexual function regarding sexual competence during the past 4 weeks, it was revealed that there was a highly statistically significant relation between total female sexual function and circumcised and The current method of delivery at p-value (<.001**), moreover, there was a statistically significant relation between total female sexual function and menstrual cycle at p-value (<.005*), on other hand, there was a no statistically significant relation between total female sexual function and another history of studied women and childbirth at p-value (>.005).
