Abstract

Background: Macrophage Stabilin-1 (STAB-1) which is a phagocytic receptor mediating efferocytosis protects against disruption of vascular integrity in the course of sepsis and promotes clearance of apoptotic vascular endothelial cells damaged by severe inflammation.
Objective: The aim of the study was to measure serum levels of stablin 1 in adult patients with hematological malignancies during the neutropenic state that had any form of clinical or laboratory diagnosis of sepsis, and to correlate its level with other diagnostic and prognostic parameters.
Patients and Methods: This was prospective study conducted on patients diagnosed as any hematological malignancy attending hematology unit of Ain Shams University for 55 participants at six months.
Results: On comparison of STAB-1 level between patients and control groups, there was a highly statistically significant increase in STAB-1 level in patients than controls (p<0.001) as shown in table (10). 31 (77.5%) cases were positive and showed higher STAB-1 level in patients’ group.
Conclusion: STAB-1 level increases in patients with hematological malignancies with sepsis in neutropenic state. There was significant positive correlation between STAB-1 level and pulse, total bilirubin, ferritin as well as CRP among the studied patients. STAB-1 level is an effective measure to determine patients with hematological malignancies with sepsis in neutropenic state.
