Abstract

ABSTRACT
Asmaa Ahmed Mahmoud: Study of Some Engineering Factors Affecting the Performance of Emitters in the Egyptian Market. Unpublished M. Sc. Thesis, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, 2019.
Trickle irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, by a network of trickle irrigation emitters; trickle irrigation provides water near the base of the plant, leaving the upper foliage dry and less susceptible to fungi. Trickle irrigation has become very important. Most of the reclaimed land in Egypt is now used for trickle irrigation because of its high efficiency. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate some irrigation emitters under different operating pressures on different lateral lengths (50-75-100 m) widely used in Egyptian agriculture. The required hydraulic tests and measurements were conducted at National Irrigation Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering Research Institute (AEnRI), ARC, MOLAR, and Egypt and The field Experiment was conducted in July 2017 (private farm) in Wadi EL Natroon in Alex-Cairo-Egypt road. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the performance of some local and imported emitters. In this study, were using 16 emitters (9 imported emitters and 7 local emitters), was carried out the evaluation under different operating pressures (0.5 – 0.75 - 1 – 1.25 – 1.5 bar), by comparing 16 emitters under study in terms of the single flow rate of the imported and local emitters in terms of the hydraulic performance of the manufacture’s coefficient of variation (CV %), emitter flow variation (q_var %), and the emission uniformity (EU %), the results showed that the Effect lateral length on emission uniformity for different emitters under different lateral length (50 m-75 m-100 m), in laboratory experiment results showed that the highest value of emission uniformity was (96.67 %) under lateral length of 50m while the lowest value was (84.84 %) under lateral length of 100m. when effect friction losses ( h_f ) under different lateral length. The results showed that the lowest value of friction losses was (2.2m) under lateral length of 50m while the highest value was (5.4 m) under lateral length of 100m, in Field experiment results showed that the effect of time on emission uniformity for different emitters in the purpose of the field test was to test emission uniformity. A field-tested discharge of three emitter have been found for two months and has been used again for two years when farming in the farm was expanded and used four years ago by expanding the farm., results showed that the highest value of emission uniformity was (94.9 %) within two months while the lowest value was (85.4 %) within four years, while the results showed that the lowest degree of clogging ratio was (3.09%) within two months and the highest degree of clogging ratio was (20.96%) within four years.
