Abstract

Aim of the study: was to assess the difference between the degree of emotional intelligence and the student residence. Research design: It was a descriptive design study. Sample included 120 nursing students were selected randomly from rural and urban (48 rural, 72 urban). Settings: The study was conducted in the technical institutes of nursing, belonging to General Secretariat for Specialized Centers Hospital. Two institutes were selected randomly are Dar Elshefa Institute and Nasser Institute. Tools: data was collected through using emotional intelligence scale to assess the degree of emotional intelligence of different nursing students. Results: There was a significant difference between rural & urban residence of studied nursing students regarding emotional intelligence, urban students have more emotional intelligence than rural nursing students where all nursing students have moderate levels of emotional intelligence. Conclusion: It was concluded that the studied nursing students had highest mean score of emotional intelligence regarding management of emotions, self-motivation and self-control while lowest mean score were dealing with others, social communication and empathy. Recommendation: Regular educational workshop should be conducted for nurses in educational and clinical areas to provide enough training on how to develop and improve the students’ emotional intelligence skills. Further research for nurses’ emotional intelligence among the technical institutes of nursing to investigate methods of emotional intelligence suitability. Enhance the emotional intelligence skills among the technical institutes pediatric nursing students regarding empathy.
