Abstract Conventional diesel engines like compression ignition(CI)type have advantages like high output power, low fuel consumption and high reliability which result to be the most demanded engines. However conventional diesel engines emit many emissions such as nitrogen oxides(NOx)which are related to the high temperature of the combustion, particulate matters(PM) and soot. These emissions cause environment pollutions which are related to the air to fuel ratio or the mixing operation which can damage the human beings. The partially premixed charge compression ignition (PPCCI) engine is considered as a bridge between the conventional compression ignition engines and the homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines. The main aim of PPCCI technology is to reduce the combustion temperature and improve the engine performance and finally reduce the emissions. The aim of the present work is to study the performance and emission characteristics for PPCCI engine fueled with different blends of diesel/biodiesel fuel. The selected blends of B20, B30 and B40 have been prepared using biodiesel manufactured using waste cooked oil by transestrification method. The experiment performed in a four stroke, constant speed and air cooled diesel engine. An external mixture formation fuel system has been designed and installed on the original intake manifold near the suction line of the engine. The fuel system consists of electronic injector, fuel vaporizer and mixing chamber in order to enhance the mixing process between the used fuel blends and air before entering to the engine cylinder. The system is arranged to permit a partially premixed charge of the fuel blend and the charged air to be well mixed before going through the engine cylinder. The rest of the fuel is injected directly by the original engine injector. |
