Abstract
aparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently the procedure of choice for symptomatic gallstones. It has evolved from an innovative, but time-consuming, novelty to a routine day-case procedure over the last 20 years.
Though bile leak after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is uncommon yet it can be associated with significant morbidity and even mortality, particularly if it is not identified and treated at an early stage.
We have discussed different studies and trials comparing different methods of management of bile leak, mainly via minimally invasive approach.
In this study we presented one hundred cases underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy with variable aetiology and presentation. All presented cases in this study and have been managed by either endoscopic.
We advocated an algorithm which – we believe – will guide the surgeon for management of patients presented with post laparoscopic cholecystectomy bile leak.
It is believed that through this study, minimally invasive approach should be in the armamentarium of surgeons dealing with post laparoscopic biliary leak specially that strong evidence suggests a preferential outcome of results in terms of morbidity and mortality
