Abstract Thalassemia is the most common hereditary anemia in Egypt. It is one of genetic diseases associated physical and psychological problems. Aim of the study was to assess physical and psychological problems among school aged children with β-thalassemia. Research design: A descriptive design was used in conduct this study. Setting: the study was carried out in Hematology Clinic in Children Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Subject: A purposive sample including eighty (80) school aged children having β-thalassemia from the previously mentioned setting. Tools of data collection: An interviewing questionnaire to assess children’s knowledge about beta thalassemia physical and psychological problems, Depression Inventory Scale, Cooper Smith Self-Esteem Inventory Scale, Anxiety Scale and physical assessment sheet. The results: This study revealed that there were statistically significant relations between thalassemia major and their physical and psychological problems. Conclusion: the study concluded that majority of children with thalassemia major had at least one of physical or psychological problem. Recommendation: the study recommended further research to develop and establish official system to address thalassemia school aged children problems in the community and enhance physical and psychological support services.
