Abstract
The subject of this study is an “Analytical Descriptive study of the Efforts of the Committee of Words and Techniques in Linguistic Correction in the Academy of Arabic Language in Cairo”. This means that the study will concentrate on studying the means of language correction that have already been approved by the aforementioned committee, the substance of these means is approved and disapproved in the linguistic usage.
The importance of this thesis emerges from revealing the valuable efforts of the Arabic Language Academy, as well as the expansion of the rules of the linguistic correction and its standards, and to keep up with the linguistic change that is accelerating around us in many areas, particularly the printed media, radio and television, and to provide new language material for the editors of modern dictionaries, and open the door for language discretion based on disciplined rules, accurate measurements and steady rules; developed and codified by the Academy scholars from Egypt and the Arab world.
The thesis aims also to review a lot of right language books, and also say and do not say, that were committed to some rules in approving and disapproving; then it appeared that the Arabic language had another view of approving and acceptance, and that the slang - in some of its aspects - is an eloquent sound language. Some people imagine that some of their wording is slang, the reality contradicts that, or that most of the slang is a deviation of the correct Fusha (classical) language, and the approval to use of word contrary to how Arab used it as long as it progresses on their measurements of metaphor, derivation ,expanding the connotation and others.
The thesis revealed that the aforementioned Commission has expanded the rules of the linguistic correction and controls, as it widened the derivation rules, and approved a lot of issues that the Syntax experts limit to the hearing, and influenced modern language dictionaries with many words, and demonstrated a great flexibility in measuring some already special metres, as well as exchanges between the morphological formulas, expanding and narrowing the connotation and transferring it, and metaphor, as well as enriching the Arabic language with means of translation and localization ... etc.
The study recommended the need to develop a specific plan of the means of correction of language, and the necessity that the Academy should play the role of language censor in controlling the structure of the language in society, and that the Academy opens up channels of communication with the public, writers and broadcasters, and the need for Academy to address the problems of teaching Syntax and morphological curricula in schools and universities, and hold seminars with those responsible for developing these curricula, as well as hearing from those in charge of the learning process, and finally students in all levels of education, and the completion of the modest efforts both in the field as educational Syntax or in facilitating Syntax. The thesis recommend that the Academy should practice through its committees the role of moderation in the linguistic correction. Also the Academy should, through its researchers and editors, extrapolate the press language that is famous for growing and renovation in Egypt in particular and the Arab world in general, and monitoring all developments in the language from words to methods and structures as well as studying it, and making sure of its validity or not.
Finally, the thesis criticized the Commission for not putting general linguistic correction controls, and not explaining some means of language correction. The researcher has tried hard to extract these controls and approve what is already a approved, and has taken on the of interpretation and explanation sometimes, and approved words and methods that are not used, and repeated the study of some words and methods.
