Abstract The effect of evaporative air cooled condenser by using cooled spray mist water on the chiller performance is studied experimentally. The effect of design parameters on the chiller performance are studied at different ambient conditions. The experimental test rig is design and installed. The following conclusions are obtained: 1- Cooling the water mist increases the total performance of the chiller regardless of the required cooling capacity for the water mist. 2- The evaporative air cooled condenser increase the performance of the chillers especially in dry and very hot regions. 3- Decreasing air temperature reduced the total power consumption and improved coefficient of performance. In the present model, when air temperature reduced from 40 to 16.1 , the total power consumption reduced from 73.3 to 53.45 kW, the total cooling capacity increased from 188.8 kW to 243.7 kW and system coefficient of performance enhanced from 2.58 to 4.52 (increasing by 75.19%). 4- By increasing air relative humidity, the total power consumption, cooling capacity, and COP are decreased, increased, and increased respectively. In the present model, When changing the relative humidity from 25% to 98 % at 42 ambient temperature, the total power consumption decreased from 73.3 to 58.19 kW, the total cooling capacity increased from 178.4 to 219.6 kW and the system COP increased from 2.43 to 3.77 (by 55.1%) |
