Abstract The popularity of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have in- creased tremendously in recent time due to growth in Micro- Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology. WSN has the potentiality to connect the physical world with the virtual world by forming a network of sensor nodes. Here, sensor nodes are usually battery-operated devices, and hence energy saving of sensor nodes is a major design issue. This problem can be resolved by compressive sensing theory. Compressive sensing (CS) is a sampling theory, which leverages the compressibility of the signal to reduce the number of samples required for reconstruction. Using CS as the data acquisition approach in WSNs can significantly reduce the energy consumed in the process of sampling and transmission, and also lower the wireless bandwidth required for communication. |
