Abstract

Hospital Stay
The mean hospital stay was 3 days in our early 100 cases as our learning curve was in its beginning but owing to mastering the technique and the preservation of drain insertion for only indicated cases we were able to come up with a mean hospital stay of 24 hours in non complicated cases.
Resolution of Comorbidities
Comparing co-morbidity status of patients after 24 months of the operation in the following aspects metabolic syndrome, dyslipidaemia, type II diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disease, respiratory disease, degenerative arthritis, back pain, menstrual disturbance and infertility shows that there is significant difference between different operations.
LAGB is the least effective on resolving obesity co-morbidity while LRYGB with its two modalities, is superior to the other operations.
Weight Loss
Statistical analysis reveals significant difference between the EBWL% of the 4 different operations after 6, 12, 18 and 24 months as the P-value is nearly zero. The means of EBWL% after 6, 12, 18 and 24 months are low for LAGB, better for LVBG, while the best results appear for LRYGB banded type.
Weight Regain
Analysis of the data reveals that the mean of EBWL% after 6 is less than the mean of EBWL% after 12 and18 months for the 4 types of operation, while the mean of EBWL% after 24 is less than the mean of EBWL% after 12 and18 months for the 4 types of operation. The reason is that patients start to lose weight after the operation reaching the maximum EBWL% between 12 and 18 months and then starts to regain some weight of what they lost with different ratio for each operation.
We found that Percentage of Weight Regain to Max EBWL% after 24 months is maximum in LAGB and minimum in LRYGB banded type.
