Abstract

Atotal of 100 small wild animals were trapped from different localities in Assiut and Sohag Governorates.
The rodents were composed of 48 field rats,25 Norway rats, 21 Cairo spiny rats and 6 house rats.
Hair specimens of these animals were cultured by the soil-bulit technique and any mycelial growth was examined microsocopically and culturally.
84 strains of dermatophytes belonging to Microsprum and Trichophyton species were isolated. They were identified as M.gypseum (40 trains ), T.mentagrophytes (30) and T.terrestre(14).
Experimental infection of representatives of the 3 species showed that the majority were pathogenic expect these of T.terrestre.
