Abstract
T h i s work was conducted t o study t h e e f f e c t of l a n d l e v e l l i n g t r e a t m e n t s on.growth , y i e l d and y i e l d components of r i c e and a l s o t o e s t i m a t e t h e a c t u a l consumptive u s e and water r e q u i r e m e n t s f o r rice crop. Also t h e work was aimed t o s t u d y t h e e f f e c t of land l e v e l l i n g t r e a t m e n t s s o c a l l e d dry l e v e l l i n g , t a l w e e t i n g and heavy t a l w e e t i n g on some p h y s i c a l p r o p e r t i e s such a s bulk d e n s i t y , s o i l compaction , i n f i l t r a t i o n r a t e , s o i l m o i s t u r e c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s and zggregation parameters. For t h e s e purposes,: an experiment w2s conducted during 1988 and 1989 growing seasons i n t h e farm of Sakha Ag r i c u l t u r e Re s e a r c h S t a t i o n i n a r e a 07 abo~t45 00 m 2 . The experiment c o n t a i n e d t h r e e t r e a t m e n t s 2nd t h r e e rsplicates i n a randomized complete block design. The a r e a was d i v i d e d i n t o nine p l o t s , zll p l o t s were f l o o d e d with water f o r a p e r i o d of two days b e f o r e doing wetl e v e l l i n g (Talweet) p r o c e s s , then t h r e e p l o t s were w e t - l e v e l l e d one time , t h e o t h e r t h r e e p l o t s were w e t - l e v e l l e d t h r e e times, but t h e l a t t e r t h r e e p l o t s were d r y - l e v e l l e d . I n t h i s s t u d y , r i c e v a r i e t y (Gita 172) was p l a n t e d i n t h e two growing s e a s o n s . S o i l samples and u n d i s t u r b e d s o i l c o r e s were c o l l e c t e d b e f o r e p l a n t i n g and a f t e r harve.sting from t h e l a y e r s 0-20 , 20-40 and 40-60 cm. t o determine t h e p r e v i o u s p h y s i c a l p r o p e r t i e s .
