Abstract The objective of this work was to study the effect of type of milk replacer and system of weaning (early and nolmal) on the performance of buffalo calves. A number of 42 newly born male buffalo calves were divided into six similar groups. st, second and third groups (I, 11 and 111) were weaned early at 70 days of age and fed on whole milk (I). imported milk replacer (II) and local milk replacer (III), respectively. The fourth, fifth and sixth groups (IV, V and VI) w?z-e wearied at 205 days arid fed who1 e milk (IV), imported milk replacer (VI end local milk rep1 a cel- V , respectively. Mi lh- rep1 a cers were offered in buckets twice daily, a calf starter and good quality hay were given to a1 1 groups from the first h~eek. The results obtained in the present study are summarized as fol 1 ows: I-During 1 - 15 weeks: I-Averages for daily gain were 0.399, 0.383, 0.388, 0.544, 0.532 and 0.525 kg for calves in groups I, 11, I, IV, V and VI, respectively. ’The differences betw2en weaning syztem (early 03- normail were highly significant. |
