Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out in an administration field at the village of Malha, El-Mansoura, Dakahlia, Governorate, Egypt during two successive seasons 1995 and 1996 in order to study the effect of harvesting time, nitrogen fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer on the yield and its attributes and quality of sunflower.The spilt-plot design with four replicates was used, three harvesting times i.e. 80, 95 and 110 days from planting were devoted to the main plots.The sub-plots included the three levels of nitrogen fertilizer i.e. 30, 45 and 60 kg/fad and the sub-sub plots included the three levels of phosphorus (P2O5)0,15,30 Kg/fad.
The main results could be summarized as follows :
A-Effect of harvesting times
-1)Plant height, stem diameter, head diameter, seed weight/head, generation percentage, protein percentage and oil percentage were not significantly differed according to harvesting time in the two seasons.
2-Viability percentage markedly increased by early harvesting time in the first season only.
3-The harvesting time after 110 days from seeding significantly increased oil yield (Kg/fad). The increased amounts reached 1% and 8% compared with the harvesting time of 95 and 80 days from seeding, respectively in the first season and 3% and 19% in the second one.
4-The harvesting time 110 days from seeding significantly increased protein yield by about 2% and 9% compared with 95 and 80 days from sowing in the first season. In the second one, the increase amounted 3% and 18% for 110 days from seeding compared with 95 and 80 days from sowing, respectively.
