Abstract
The present study was conducted to evaluate the functional state of thyroid gland among infertile males using the most reliable methods for thyroid fu¬nction assessment. A series of 34 infertile males and 10 normal fe¬rtile healthy controls was investigated. A thorough history and medical examination was made. Complete urinalysis, stool analysis and blood picture were done to all patients as a part of the general examination. The prostate gland was palpated and its secretion was examined microscopically. Semen analysis was done at least twice for every case before being included in this study. The thyroid functional state was assess¬ed by determination of serum TBG, T^ and FTI. Analysis of the results showed that the thyroi-dal function was normal in most cases and only 3 cases showed a mild hypofunction (8.8%). No significant di¬fference was found in the PTI values among the differ¬ent types of semen picture.
