Abstract

The choice of artificial eye manufacturing technology did not result in a
statistically significant difference in the microbiological flora. However, 3D printed acrylic
resin, as a material for prosthetic eyes, has shown a potential advantage in reducing
colonization by microbial pathogens. All subjective clinical evaluation parameters showed
improved results after three months of prosthetic use, emphasizing the need for an adaptation
period during which patients’ complaints are alleviated. Compared to the degree of anticolonization
ability against pathogenic bacteria, coupled with a significant level of patient
comfort. 3D printed acrylic resins showed improved results compared to traditional
polymethyl, which indicates their potential as a promising material for manufacturing
prosthetic eyes. This technology was proposed to manufacture artificial eyes with the aim of
reducing the time and skills required. The average effective time required for fabrication
using this technique was 2.5 hours. It relies on professional CT scanning to produce the inner
and outer surfaces of the prosthetic eye in 3D, along with digital positioning of the iris that is
confirmed by facial scanning. All of these developments make it easier for patients to access
high-quality, custom-designed prosthetic eyes.
