Abstract

At the end of December 2019, a new coronavirus (SARSCoV2) has been identified as the cause of a cluster of pneumonia cases in city of Wuhan, China and has caused a COVID-19 outbreak. health care professionals are being asked to provide care, or to deliver specific interventions, in environments that pose new and significant risks to themselves. There is particular concern that these professionals are at increased risk of acquiring COVID-19 themselves. This is because the airway secretions of patients who become seriously ill with COVID-19 contain the highest concentration of virus particles, and therefore, clinical interventions that expose healthcare workers to these secretions are particularly dangerous. These include interventions, such as intubation, that create aerosols of virus-laden secretions.
Female Healthcare professionals may be concerned about transmitting the virus they received from the hospital to their partners. The rate of spread of the COVID-19 outbreak was quite high and caused severe stress for Female healthcare professionals working in the front line Sexuality is an important part of women‗s life and one of the most important one‗s responsible for mental health. It has a huge impact on maintaining interpersonal communication and determines human well-being.
Results of the current study could be summarized as follows:
A total of 210 responses were available with a mean age from 30 to 39 years. Female sexual dysfunction was reported by 76.7% of the participants, with the following associated factors : lower libido, isolation from partener and having concerns about sexual transmission of COVID -19. There was a statistically significant decline in the frequency of sexual intercourse among participants (P value <0.001) after COVID-19 infection. there was a statistically significant decline regarding the times of feeling sexual desire, level of sexual desire, times of feeling sexually aroused, level of sexually aroused, confidence about becoming sexually aroused, and satisfaction with arousal after COVID-19 infection (P value ≤ 0.05). Remaining sexually active and having higher sexual frequency appear to decrease the chance of worsening sexual function .There was a statistically significant decrease regarding times of being lubricated with difficulties in having and maintaining lubrication during and until completion of sexual activity (P value ≤ 0.05 after COVID-19 infection. There was a statistically significant reduction regarding the times and satisfaction of having orgasm. There was a statistically significant increase in the difficulty of reaching orgasm .there was statistically significant decrease regarding the satisfaction of overall sexual life, and the satisfaction of sexual relationship (P value ≤ 0.05) after COVID-19 infection. Worsening sexual satisfaction was reported in 73.8% of the sample .There were significant increase regarding times and level of feeling pain during and following vaginal penetration (P value >0.05) after COVID-19 infection. There was a significant decrease in desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction with overall sexual life (P value ≤ 0.05), on the other hand, there was a significant increase regarding pain (P value >0.05) after COVID-19 infection. All of six domains of Female Sexual Function Index had been affected.
The results of the present study showed that COVID-19 pandemic was correlated with higher rates of sexual dysfunction and reduced sexual activity. The sexual function of female health care professional was dramatically affected, probably, due to the worldwide stress of the emergent COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of people to experience economic and financial issues, as unemployment, greater poverty, and decreased incomes and earnings; all of these had a significant negative impact on sexual activity and functioning. Psychological support should be provided to all couples to enhance coping with COVID-19 related stress. Counseling couples that the active sexual relation should be maintained during the pandemic while following the recommended protective measures as Sexual health is a crucial to maintain the overall health and satisfaction of every individual in the community.
