Abstract The present dissertation examined the suggested art-based learning model’s effect on developing English language majors’ literary appreciation skills and self-esteem. The study participants were 35 students of The American University of Kuwait English Literature freshmen in the Fall Semester of the academic year 2021; their ages ranged from (18-19) years old. The dissertation adopted the pre-post one-group experimental design. The researcher designed the suggested art-based learning model for developing English language majors’ literary appreciation skills and self-esteem; the researcher also designed the Self-esteem Scale for Literary Appreciation to measure the effect of the intervention on the English language majors’ self-esteem. The results’ quantitative and qualitative analysis of the pre/post literary appreciation tests and pre/post-self-esteem scales showed that the suggested art-based learning model effectively developed English language majors’ literary appreciation skills and self-esteem. Based on these results, designing other teaching models based on literary theories to develop literary appreciation skills was recommended. |
