Abstract

A series of Ni:Ag bimetallic nanoparticles were synthesized using citrate reduction of silver nitrate and nickel nitrate with different molar ratios. The synthesized NPs were characterized by XRD, TEM, ICP-AES, and UV-vis spectrophotometry. XRD confirmed that all synthesized NPs show cubic structure of Ag NP without occurrence of any additional phase of Ni due to its relatively low molar ratios. Upon increasing the Ni molar ratio, TEM images show decrease in the particle size with increasing in aggregation. The crystal geometry of the synthesized NPs was studied by XRD, where the crystallite size, lattice parameter, and lattice strain were estimated. ICP-AES elemental analysis confirmed that the ratio between Ag and Ni in the obtained bimetallic NPs are close to the added ratios. UV-vis spectrophotometry shows that all synthesized bimetallic NPs exhibit tunable surface plasmon resonance (SPR), which has a specific trend with increasing Ni content.
