المستخلص Geographic information systems (GIS) play an essential role in wide range of areas and extensively adopted nowadays. GIS are commonly used as a supporting system for making best possible decisions through spatial and non - spatial data relations, visualization and processing. GIS is beneficial and works well when made available to as many people as possible everywhere and anytime at the expense of very less resources in terms of technology and expenditure. Current GIS applications increasingly require geographic data to be managed through the web. Users of such applications need not only to display the data but also to interactively modify them. The proliferation of web-based GIS applications is creating unprecedented opportunities for the shared use of spatial data. As a result, spatial data may be subjected to various security risks where, it may be displayed to or modified by illegitimate users. Therefore, there is an increasing need to secure such applications. However, web - based GIS security is a field that has not been much investigated by GIS community |
