Abstract The original work in this thesis includes the study of photocatalytic reaction utilized composites structures (iron-alumina, polystyrene and polyacrylamide/ iron-alumina) to reduce the sulfur content of model and real diesel oil. The 20% iron-alumina exhibited the highest desulfurization activity of 97% under visible light irradiation source with a power of 500 W for 30 min, 1g/L and H2O2 to feed ratio of 1.5. The non-oxidative photodesulfurization of DBT was studied over polystyrene and polyacrylamide/iron-alumina nanocomposites. The 30% ex situ polystyrene and polyacrylamide/ iron-alumina exhibited the highest desulfurization activity of 94.9 and 97.4% respectively. Their optimum desulfurization conditions are 1g/L and 500 W light intensity for 30 min and 45 min respectively. The optimum conditions obtained from model diesel oil applied on real diesel oil and the sulfur removal is enhanced using ultrasonic. |
