Abstract Chitosan is a highly chemically reactive biopolymer due to the amine and hydroxyl groups in its structure. Due to its superior biocompatibility, biodegradability, and low toxicity, chitosan has numerous appealing uses in the fields of biotechnology, the pharmaceutical sector, and antibacterial agents against a variety of bacterial strains. These characteristics suggest that chitosan has the potential for a variety of medical uses. The aim of this thesis is the development of physicochemical characteristics of chitosan by chemical modification utilizing heterocyclic compounds under various reaction conditions as well as assessment of new modified chitosan derivatives for biomedical applications |
