Abstract

Steel I-girders with corrugated webs are nowadays widely used in steel structures due to their capability of out-of-plane stiffness. They can be used as an appropriate alternative to seat web with transverse stiffeners, because they increase fatigue resistance and reduce self-weight and fabrication costs. However, investigations on the behavior of the circular corrugated web girders are still scarce. Therefore, the present study focuses on the performance of these types of girders when subjected to vertical or horizontal loads. A numerical study is performed using ABAQUS software in order to simulate the behavior of the I-girders with circular corrugated webs. A parametric study is carried out to investigate the effect of different geometrical parameters on the behavior of the I-girders with circular corrugated web, taking into account both linear and non-linear buckling analyses. The studied parameters are flange thickness, flange width, web thickness, girder height, corrugation depth, corrugation width and beam span. The results of the corrugated web girders are compared with results of girders with flat web. Simple formulas are proposed to predict the moment capacity of the circular corrugated web girders.
