Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to study the structural behavior of lightweight self{u2013}cured concrete (LWSCC) before and after exposure to fire compared with that of normal weight concrete (NWC). An experimental program of twelve simply supported slabs. Type of concrete, cement contents, concrete cover, cooling method and fire duration were the main variables examined in this thesis. Slabs were exposed to fire at 600{u00B0}C for 1 or 2 hours. During testing, deflection, cracking load and ultimate load were recorded, and the crack patterns were also recorded. Furthermore, a theoretical study was done using Ansys program and the results were compared with the results obtained from the experimental work. from the theoretical and experimental study it can be concluded that LWSCC slabs have potentially higher fire resistance than NWC slabs due to the lower thermal conductivity of such type of concrete compared with NWC therefore, LWSCC could by use successfully as a heat insulation material for the protection of reinforcement
