Abstract

Aim: The aim of this work is to evaluate the relation of serum omentin_1 level in type 1 diabetic patients as a biomarker of obesity and to identify the possible relationship of omentin_1 with the cardiometabolic markers as early predictor of cardiovascular disease in type 1 diabetes. Subjects-Methods: This case study included 45 diabetic patient and 45 healthy subjects subdivided according to body mass index into (lean ,obese and normal weight). Some lab investigations such as HbA1c, fasting insulin, HOMA IR ,liver function test , kidney function test ,lipid pro{uFB01}le, hs-CRP , and omentin 1 levels were measured to evaluate the metabolic parameters. Results: In This case study we found low omentin_1 level in obese children, so it has inversely relationship with waist circumference, BMI, IR (insulin resistance), duration of disease. Also our results showed that higher omentin_1 level was seen in lean group as compared with obese and normal weight group. Although hs-CRP levels were higher in obese group as compared with lean and normal weight groups. So a positive correlation found between hs-CRP and lipid profile. Conclusion: Our data indicates that serum Omentin _1 levels are i) lower in obese children and ii) negatively correlated with BMI, WC, and insulin levels suggesting that Omentin_ 1 might be a biomarker for metabolic dysfunction also in childhood and adolescence.
