Abstract

Background: Work-family conflict (WFC) is a sort of inter-role conflict that develops when work and family obligations collide with one another. WFC was highly prevalent in the Egyptian society and was linked to poor physical and mental health outcomes. Previous research revealed a link between WFC and unhealthy behaviours and conditions. Evidence also showed that WFC is frequently a major source of stress at work, which can have a significant impact on wellbeing and result in emotional weariness, burnout, sleep difficulties, melancholy, and fatigue.
Aim of the study: Measure Work Family Conflict and Family Work Conflict (FWC), assess emotional exhaustion, sleep quantity and quality among Minia University Hospitals’ workers.
Research methodology: A cross-sectional study was performed among 311 Minia University hospitals’ workers including 104 doctors, 104 nurses and 103 clerks.
Results: WFC score was higher among nurses (21.4) and doctors (21.3) than clerks (20.05) with statistically significantly difference, Emotional exhaustion score was higher among doctors (26.2) than nurses (23.8) and clerks (2.1) with statistically significantly difference and Sleep score was higher among doctors (6.08) than nurses (3.7) and Clerks (1.9) with statistically significant difference.
Conclusion: WFC score was higher among nurses and doctors than clerks. Emotional exhaustion score was higher among doctors than nurses and clerks. Sleep score was higher among doctors than nurses and Clerks among Minia University Hospitals.
Recommendation: Support flexible work schedule, Creating a family-friendly working environment, engaging in positive social interactions and maintaining adequate environmental conditions.
