Summary
This Study represents an effort by the Researcher to enable strong and effective consumer protection under the umbrella of the Egyptian Consumer Protection Law, through applying the Law. To this end, the Study used the Comparative Analysis based on three pillars. The First Pillar explores consumer protection under the principles of Egyptian civil law, French laws, and jurisprudence in this arena. While the Second Pillar considers the principles set out in European directives, the Third Pillar is concerned with consumer protection principles under the newly produced Consumer Protection Law 181 of 2018; and makes a comparison between the Law and the repealed Consumer Protection Law 67 of 2006, by demonstrating practical applications and judicial rulings rendered on consumer protection.
This Study is divided into two Parts. While Part One addresses consumer protection before contracting, Part Two focuses on consumer protection after contracting. Before the two Parts is an introductory entitled “The Evolution of Consumer Protection.”
The Study shows the effectiveness of the provisions of the new Consumer Protection Law 181 of 2018 in bringing and enforcing strong and effective consumer protection. It also presents capabilities of the Law in keeping pace with developments in e-commerce, by exploring the legislation that preceded us regarding the field of consumer protection.
In conclusion of the Study, the Researcher attempted to present a set of suggestions for enabling effective consumer protection in Egypt.
