Abstract

Aim of this study is to Detect the humoral immune response to Measles-Mumps-Rubella
vaccine in asthmatic and non-asthmatic, Detect the effect of 3rd MR booster dose on
the qualitative & quantitative immune response to measles, Rubella vaccines and to
Improve the understanding of factors affecting the immunological specific mean
antibody to MMR vaccine in both subjected groups.
The present case control study was conducted on 90 children: The study included 45
asthmatic patients and 45 apparently healthy age -and sex-matched as controls. The
study assessed the level of serum MMR specific IGg, the age ranged from 2 to 5 years.
Mean age was 3.7 ± 1.3 in asthmatic patients and 3.5±1.3 years in controls. Male
asthmatic patients represented 64.4% and female asthmatic patients represented 35.6%.
While in control group males represented 57.8% and females represented 42.2%.
Fifty three percent resided in urban areas whereas 46.6% came from rural areas; in
asthmatic patients resided in urban areas were 51.1%, 48.9% in rural areas. In control
group the percentages were 55.6%, and 44.4%, respectively.
Regarding Measles specific IGg; the present study showed that: the qualitative level of
measles specific IgG was protective in 76(84.4%) children; [38(84.4%) study group
&38(84.4%) controls], equivocal in 3(6.7%) &6 (13.3%), non-protective in 5(11.1%)
[4(8.9%) &1(2.2%) respectively]. Regarding mumps specific IGg; our results show;
level of mumps specific IgG was positive in 77(85.6%) children [36(80%) cases
&41(91.1%) controls], equivocal in 10(22.3%) [7(15.6%) cases &3(6.7%) controls],
negative in 3(6.6%) [2(4.4%) cases &1(2.2%) controls]. Regarding Rubella specific
IGg; the present study shows level of Rubella specific IgG was positive in 89(98.9%)
children [45(100%) cases &44(97.8%) control], negative in 1(2.2%) control female
child only
Results showed Lower level of circulating measles specific IgG correlated with asthma
severity. There was statistically significant lower level of circulating mumps specific
IgG in preterm children among both cases and controls and There was higher level of
circulating rubella specific IgG in study group after receiving a third booster MR
vaccine dose.
Conclusion; We found significant higher sero-protective level of rubella specific IgG
among asthma group of children after administration a third booster MR vaccine dose.
