Abstract The present study was performed to investigate surface sediment samples collected from Lake Edku of the Nile Delta Lagoons, Egypt. The study was conducted from 10 sampling sites during 2017. I-Sediment characterization II-Assessment of some heavy metals III-Heavy metals Fractionation In general, the distribution of total trace metals in the Lake sediments was controlled by the association of heavy metals with carbonate, fine particles (silt-clay) and organic matter content. The present study reflects the impact of anthropogenic input, as source for trace metals to Lake Edku. Trace metals present in the sediments, showed a difference in the pattern of partitioning among different chemical forms of the sediments. Partitioning patterns also varied among the sampling sites in the exchangeable fraction. Sequential extraction method is used to study the chemical fractionation of iron, manganese, zinc, copper, lead and nickel in Lake Edku sediments. |
