Abstract

Pesticides are chemicals used against weeds, diseases and pest for improving crop yield. Among them, herbicides are used as weed killers in agriculture. The accumulation of these chemicals in natural water stream creates a serious problem due to their adverse effects on human and animal health. The proposed study has recorded the presence of 2,4-D , 2,4-DP , 2,4,5-T , MCPP and MCPA using LC/MS/MS analyzer in Rosita River Nile and agriculture drainage channels. Moreover, the study has considered zinc ferrite nanoparticles and magnetite bentonite nanocomposite for removing that pollutants. The optimization study for 2,4-D , 2,4-DP , 2,4,5-T , MCPP and MCPA showed a maximum percent of removal of 97.84%, 93.29%, 95.01%, 94.83% and 94.07%, respectively for adsorption followed by photodegradation using 0.3 g of zinc ferrite nanoparticles for 15 min. at pH 8.0. While, reduction was 87.14%, 97.21%, 93.34%, 76.14%, and 89.22%, respectively for adsorption using 0.4 g of magnetite bentonite nanocomposite for 15 min. at pH 7.0. Adsorption capacity over zinc ferrite nanoparticles was 0.34, 0.30, 0.30, 0.22 and 0.31 mg g-1, respecitively at initial concentration 10 mg L-1 after 15 min. while, over magnetite bentonite nanocomposite was 0.44, 0.38, 0.31, 0.36 and 0.25 mg g-1, respecitively. Zinc ferrite nanoparticles photodegradation and magnetite bentonite nanocomposite adsorption has been fulfilled pseudo-second-order. Adsorption based on zinc ferrite nanoparticles and magnetite bentonite nanocomposite were well fitted by Freundlich isotherms rather than the other studied isotherm model. Thus, zinc ferrite nanoparticles and magnetite bentonite nanocomposite could be considered as an excellent candidate for removing such pesticides.
