Abstract

Down syndrome (DS) is the most common chromosomal abnormality occurring in humans affecting one per 1000 babies born each year and it is the most common recognizable genetic syndrome associated with immune defects which explain their increased susceptibility to infectionsH.pylori infection is one of the most prevalent human infections, is the main cause of peptic ulcer and gastric cancers and is a major public health problem, which associated with ischemic heart disease (IHD), iron deficiency anemia (IDA), cerebral and neurological disease such as Alzheimer and migraine The aim of the work: to evaluate prevalence of H.pylori infection in children with children with Down syndrome in compared to normal children. Type of study: cross sectional study with comparative component. Materials andMethods: 160 children with DS recruited from the Genetic outpatient clinics of Mansoura University Children Hospital(MUCH) compared to 160 age, sex and socioeconomically matched healthy children as control group during the period between December 2017 to June 2019. H.pylori stool Ag test was done for all studied groups and confirmed by Urea breath test in 31 DS cases. Upper GI endoscopy and mucosal biopsy was done for the DS cases and had indications for this procedure which were 24 cases.
