Abstract

Many studies searched for the effective and the most reliable gold standard technique for diagnosis of lower limb ischemia. In old days catheter angiography was the gold standard tool in diagnosis and evaluation of lower limb ischemia but it has many disadvantages such as invasiveness, time consuming, contrast allergy, unavailability and presence of contraindications such as patients of renal failure. So, it is now considered to be therapeutic not diagnostic. After that CT angiography has evolved from single slice to Multi-slice and earned its position and had become the cornerstone for diagnosis of ischemia as it isnoninvasive, requires less amount of contrast media without the risk of intervention. But as traditional angiography, it has many disadvantages such as being contraindicated in renal failure and the patients with metallic prosthesis. So, Doppler sonography of lower limb emerged as an alternative easy, quick and radiation free method for diagnosis of ischemia of lower limb. In our study we compared the results of both Doppler and CT angiography to answer the question ”can Doppler replace CT angiography in diagnosis of lower limb ischemia”.
