Abstract

Chronic hepatitis C (HCV) infection is major public health problem all over the world and in Egypt has special importance. HCV is associated with male sexual dysfunction. Disturbances of sexual function had negative effects of on relationships and quality of life. Hepatitis C is commonly accompanied by fatigue, depression, decrease of libido, ED, infertility and a decreased interest in sex. Depression has been documented as side effect of older treatment regimen of HCV which include PEG-IFN plus ribavirin.This study was designed to evaluate the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men with HCV and the effect of oral DAA antiviral treatment on male sexual function.The study was conducted on 198 Hepatitis C patients attending the tropical and internal medicine outpatient clinics of Damietta hospitals and Benha University hospitals with chronic hepatitis C who under treatment with oral direct acting antivirals (DAAs) therapy for hepatitis C treatment .All patients were subjected to full history taking, general examination local genital examination, Arabic version of international index of erectile function-5(IIEF-5) , routine laboratory investigations (including CBC, liver function tests, viral serology analysis and HCV RNA by quantitative PCR) . Patient was assessed before treatment and 6months after treatment. In the present study, age, habitant, duration of marriage of patient and control were matched.There were significant increase in liver enzyme and bilirubin in patients before treatment when compared to control group. Their level were significantly reduced after treatment except for serum bilirubin which has no significant differences.
