Abstract

Aim of the study is to assess factors affecting the quality of life of children with Hirsh Sprung’s disease. Research design: A descriptive design was utilized. Settings: The study was conducted in the inpatient surgical departments in Children Hospital affiliated to –Ain Shams University Hospitals and Cairo University Hospitals. Subjects: A purposive sample composed of thirty children having Hirschsprung’s disease and their own mother Tools of data collection: A predesigned questionnaire sheet used to collect data from the children’s mothers about the disease and Kidscreen quality of life scale to assess quality of life (QOL). Results: Revealed that the total level of quality of life domain have average level of effect on children having Hirschsprung’s disease and there was no statistical significant relation between duration of illness and QOL of the studied children. Conclusion: This study concluded that, the factors affecting QOL for children with HSD were Physical well-being, moods and emotions, autonomy, Parent relations and home life, social acceptance/bullying, financial. Recommendations: The study recommended that adequate education for family about the effect of the disease on the quality of life on their children having Hirschsprung’s disease must be provided.
