Abstract

Increasing energy consumption rates is one of the most important problems in
Egypt so the study focus on energy impact of ventilation and infiltration of
office buildings on cooling and heating loads that are one of the factors that
effect on energy consumption rates . The results indicate that ventilation and
infiltration have great effect on total loads. Increasing ventilation and
infiltration rates leads to increase the losses of cooling and heating loads. This
will lead to the highest consumption rates of energy. Considering a 3-story
moderate size office building of about 2500 m2 footprint in Tanta city as a
case study; peak load occurs in June at 15:00 pm and is about 515.32 kW.
Infiltration load may represent about 10.6% from total cooling load.
Increasing ventilation rate with 2.5 l/s increases the total cooling load about
12.2% in summer months. The monthly cooling load in June is estimated as
189 MWh and the monthly energy consumption is about 91 MWh..
