Abstract

Maha Sayed Ali Haridy Hassan: Effect of some Biocides and
Chemicals on Tomato Genome and its Resistance to Some Pathogens
under Green House and Tissue Culture Technique. Unpublished
PhD. Thesis, Department of Genetics, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain
Shams University, 2016.
Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is one of the most
important economic vegetable crops in Egypt. This work aims to studythe
effects of two biocides; clean root with active ingredients; Trichoderma
harzianumor or Bacillus subtilis and two fungicides; Rizolex or Topsen
which used to control damping off disease caused by two pathogens;
Fusarium solani and Rhizoctonia solani on the behavior of meiosis, pollen
grains fertility, structure and morphology and callus growth variation of the
tomato cultivars. Evaluation of 12 tomato cultivars against the two
pathogens infection revealed that the most susceptible cultivar was Castle
rock, the most resistant cultivar was Nemathoda and the moderately
susceptible cultivar was super strain B. The use of the two fungicides was
more effective in control pathogens than the use of the two biocides;
individually or in dual application on tomato cultivars except cultivar
Nemathoda for control of F. solani, which showed no significant
differences among fungicides and biocides treatments compared to the
controls. Cytogenetic analyses of meiotic division, the genome (2n) of
pollen grains (PG) and their fertility and morphology showed that
fungicides were more effective on meiotic division aberrations than the
other treatments with three concentrations for the three cultivars. Castle
rock cultivar showed the highest damage for the behavior of cells during
meiosis with fungicides application. Biocides applications exhibited less
damages than the fungicides. At the level of tissue culture, results
recommended the use of bioagents in control the infected pathogens on
tomato plants than fungicides application.
