Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at ELSirw Agricultural Research Station, Damietta Governorate in 2010/2011and 2011/2012 seasons to study the effect of four nitrogen fertilizer rates (50 , 75 , 100 and120 Kg N/feddan) and eight amino acids treatments( Control (tap water) , Alanine acid , Glycine acid , Proline acid, Alanine acid +Glycine acid, Alanine acid +Proline acid, Glycine acid +Proline acid and Alanine acid +Glycine acid +Proline acid) on growth, yield and quality of sugar beet cv .Soultan .

Sugar beet plant fertilized with nitrogen at the rate of 120kg N/ feddan gave the highest values of number of leaves per plant, root length, root diameter, root fresh weight and root dry weight, leaf area index, relative growth rate, net assimilation rate and crop growth rate, of top yield per feddan, root yield per feddan and sugar yield per feddan . Sugar beet plants received the lowest nitrogen fertilizer rate (50kg N/feddan) gave the highest values of sucrose percentage, sodium percentage and purity percentage in both seasons.

Spraying sugar beet plants by the mixed amino acids (alanine + glycine) gave the highest top yield per feddan in both seasons. While sugar beet plant sprayed with the mixed amino acid (alanine + proline) gave the highest root and sugar yield per feddan in both seasons.

Sugar beet plants fertilized with nitrogen at the rate of 120 kg N/feddan and sprayed with mixed (alanine +glycine) amino acids gave the highest values of top and root yield per feddan in both seasons. While, the highest values of sugar yield per feddan were recorded with plants received 120 kg N/feddan and sprayed with mixed (alanine + proline) or (alanine +glycine) amino acids in both seasons.
