Abstract

Nurse educators serve as a role model to their students. Failing to act professionally sets a bad example and may also cause a loss in the respect of their students. Educators retain the respect of their students and colleagues and provide their students with the best possible education, demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their career. The aim of the present study was to assess the level of professionalism in nursing for nurse educators at Secondary Nursing Schools. This study was carried out at all Secondary Technical Nursing Schools at El-Bohira Governorate and it includes fifteen schools affiliated to the Ministry of Health. The study subjects included all (113) nurse educators working in the 15 Secondary Technical Nursing Schools at El-Bohira Governorate. The data of the study was collected by using Professionalism of Nurse Educators questionnaire developed by Saber (1993) (113) and modified by the researcher. The questionnaire consisted of two parts: Part one about subjects’ data sheet such as age, years of experience in the school, educational qualifications, type and area of teaching. Part two included the major attributes of professionalism divided into five attributes including the use of professional organization as major reference, belief in service to the public, belief in self-regulation, sense of calling to the field and autonomy. The subjects’ responses were scored on five points Likert Scale ranging from 5-1.Score 5 refers to always, score 4 refers to sometimes score 3 refers to often, score 2 refers to rarely, and score 1 refers to not done.
