Abstract

Ethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of citrus and alfalfa propolis were prepared, and the inhibition activities of these extracts were determined against different ten strains of food contamination pathogens. HPLC analysis proved that extraction solvent has a significant effect on chemical content of propolis extracts. All propolis extracts had clear inhibition of fungal and spore germination activities, and fungicidal activity was recorded with concentration higher than MIC. Ethanolic extract of citrus propolis showed the highest antibacterial activity against both G+ and G- bacterial strains. While, Ethyl acetate extract of citrus propolis showed the highest antiyeast activity against the treated yeast strains.
