Abstract The present study was aimed to evaluate some problems in children with epilepsy and offer different possible lines of intervention with especial stress on; incidence and prevalence of different types of epilepsy in our patients ,some etiological factors in epilepsy , efficacy of current drug therapy as determined by the change of seizure severity, determination of the cause of drug resistance amongst our patients and adverse effects of drugs on different systems of the body and psychomotor development. It was conducted on 100 epileptic patients who were treated with antiepileptic drugs either one or more drugs. They were 58 males and 42 females with a male to female ratio of 1.38: 1, their ages ranged from 2 months to 168 months. They are divided into 2 groups,group1 (Idiopathic group)and group 2 (secondary group).According to their response to therapy they further divided into 2 groups ,groupA (Refractory group)and group B(Non refractory group) They were subjected to detailed history taking, thorough clinical examination including fundus examination and I.Q. assessment. Some laboratory investigations were done including CBC, SGOT, SGPT, Serum calcium, random blood sugar and metabolic screening when indicated .Other investigations were done including audiometry, Conventional EEG, brain CT scan, MRI neuroimaging and serum level of antiepileptic drugs when indicated . |
