Abstract

Cytogenetically normal AML patients differ in their clinical outcome. They may have additional molecular abnormalities. BAALC gene expression was studied in 70 newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients presented to the NCI, Cairo University, during the period of Mars 2007 to November 2010.We emphasized on the 32 patients with normal cytogenetics and the level BAALC gene expression was studied by RT-PCR.AML patients with normal cytogenetics who had high level expression.of the novel gene BAALC are statistically different the low BAALC gene.expressers as regards the clinical outcome including lower incidence of CR,higher incidence of resistant disease, lower OS. They also had a higher trend to relapse. Primitive AML (M0 and M1) are more likely to be high BAALC gene expressers, however the presenting demographic, clinical, hematological and immunophenotypic parameters are not different.
