Abstract

H
ealth care workers are at high risk of acquiring infections and HBV infection forms one of the most serious diseases with multiple complications. So beside infection control recommendation to limit spread and transmission of HBV infection, HBV vaccine has a major role in prophylaxis against HBV. This study was conducted on group of 100 of health care workers who completed a full series of vaccine at 0, 1, 6 months, HBsAb titer ≥10 IU/ml considered immune against hepatitis B virus infection and HBsAb titer <10 IU/ml considered non immune to hepatitis B virus infection. 96 of HCWs were responders with mean age 25±6.6 years, mean BMI 26.4±2.2, mean duration 3±1.9 years and mean HBsAb titer 821.3±280.5 IU/ml. Non responders were 4 samples with mean age 30±2.4 years, mean BMI 27.5±4.6, mean duration 4.7±1.5 years and mean HBsAb titer 0.5±1 IU/ml this study revealed that HBV vaccine is a safe, effective vaccine and should be given early to get better response.
